Very sad news: Dr. Rehder passed away

 Dear Geographers,

I am very sorry to inform you that Dr. John Rehder passed away last night.  He was in good spirits during the faculty meeting, but later suffered a heart attack at home.  We do not yet know about funeral arrangements, but will forward that information when it comes. 

We are making plans today to cover  his classes for the remainder of the semester--we'll follow the plans he made for his courses.

If, like many of us, there was more you wish you had said to Dr. Rehder, or if you would like to share thoughts about him with his family, we encourage you to write a note--to him or to his family--and put it in the box.  We have set up a note-writing place and put a box in the 3rd floor commons area. We will then (next week) put these in a notebook for the family.  As they cope with his unexpected death, our fond memories and anecdotes are likely to be the greatest help we can offer.
